Cross Country women ninth, men 10th in preseason poll

Big Sky Release

OGDEN, Utah – With a new season of cross country just around the corner, the Big Sky Conference recently released the 2012 preseason poll, slating the Northern Colorado women's cross country team ninth, while the men stand at 10th, as voted on by league coaches.

Voting is calculated by each team receiving 11 points for a first place vote, 10 points for a second place vote, etc. Coaches are allowed to vote for their respective teams.

"We're excited to get the season underway," head coach Amanda Schick said. "If our team camp was any indication, we are ready to work hard and compete harder."

"This isn't the same team as last year. There's a renewed energy and belief that we're better than we've been. Everyone from the coaches to the athletes has a desire to contribute to the growth and progress of this program."

Weber State's women are the unanimous favorites to win the conference crown with 11 first place votes for a total of 121 points. For the men, it's Northern Arizona University in the number one slot, also a unanimous selection with 11 first place votes and 121 points.

The Bears' begin action at 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 31, as they make the short trek to Fort Collins for the CSU Invite. The team will compete in four events this fall, before gearing up for the Big Sky Championship on Oct. 27 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
