Cross Country Opens Season At WyomingComplete Men's
Results LARAMIE, Wyo. - Despite over an hour delay due to lightning, the 2009 cross country season got underway for the University of Northern Colorado as the women's team finished third and the men's team place fourth. Senior Kellie Callahan paced the Bears over the 2.5 mile course, crossing the finish line in 15:22.1 for seventh place. Sophomore Megan Horsch placed 15th in 15:49.4, while senior Denise Kintzley was 19th with a time of 15:56.2 in her first race in over a year. Freshman Bridget Tierney placed 25th overall after clocking a 16:42.2 in her first collegiate race and fellow freshman Allie Sojourner rounded out the scoring in 27th position with a time of 16:44.8. Senior Erin Apsey (28, 16:49.7), senior Rachel Forrest (32, 17:13.1), junior Jacqueline Lomax (33, 17:19.6) and sophomore Adrianne Larson (37, 17:43.8) also competed for the Bears but finished outside the team scoring. Colorado State won the women's competition with 30 points, while Utah Valley was second just one point behind the Rams and NC was third with 85 points. Wyoming was in fourth place with 89 points. For the men, CSU was victorious with 21 points, Utah Valley scored 42 points for second, Wyoming was in third with 71 points and the Bears placed fourth with 113 points. Freshman Ben Wilson was the top Bears finisher in 26th place with a time of 23:48.3 in his first collegiate competition while sophomore Dylan Hedges was 28th after running a 24:01.2. Junior Danny Sojka ran a 24:09.6 for 32nd place and freshman David McClelland timed a 24:49.2 for 37th place. Freshman Matt Nakamoto rounded out the scoring in 39th place with a time of 24:59.3. Senior Dan Larson and sophomore Matt Belasco finished 41st and 42nd, respectively in 25:18.8 and 25:38.7, while Joe Pummer (44, 25:52.8), Brandon Garcia (46, 26:46.7) and Cesar Rodriguez (47, 27:24.8) were among the non-scoring Bears contingent. Northern Colorado next competes on Sept. 4 at the UC Irvine Classic in Irvine, Calif. |
