Deffenbaugh Selected Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Women's College Athlete of the Year

GREELEY, Colo. - University of Northern Colorado All-American volleyball player Erin Deffenbaugh was selected as the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Women's College Athlete of the Year as announced on Tuesday.
The award is the second for Deffenbaugh, who also won the honor during her junior season of 2002, when she was the AVCA Division II National Player of the Year after averaging 6.14 kills/game and leading her team to the NCAA Elite 8. She suffered a knee injury in 2003 and missed the entire season before returning in 2004 to help the Bears in their first-year against a full Division I schedule.
In 2004, she was named the Division I Independent Offensive Player of the Year, was a five-time D-I Independent Player of the Week selection and finished her career ranked No. 1 in NCAA history in career attempts (6,645) and No. 3 in NCAA history in career kills (2,529). She averaged 4.74 kills and 3.21 digs/game and she led Northern Colorado to a 25-9 record and tie for first-place at the Division I Independent Championships during the year. Off the court, she was named a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American (University Division), becoming the first-ever, first-team Division I Academic All-American in school history. Deffenbaugh started every set (493) of every match (135) of her career and helped UNC to a 100-35 record in those matches.
Colorado School of Mines quarterback Chad Friehauf was named the Men's College Athlete of the Year.
The 41st annual Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at the Denver Marriott City Center. That night six individuals (Shannon Sharpe, Joe Belmont, Pat Haggerty, April Heinrichs, Chad Hennings and Dick Katte) will be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame while other awards will be given out including Chauncey Billups being named Professional Athlete of the Year.

This weekend, Deffenbaugh will be featured on an episode of Colorado Sportswomen which will air on CBS 4 on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. The program, hosted by CBS 4's Marcia Neville, will feature a segment that profiles Deffenbaugh's career at Northern Colorado and the relationship between her and her father Larry, who is a legendary prep volleyball coach at Strasburg High School.
