Spikers Open LIU Classic With Sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Sept. 30, 2005
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The University of Northern Colorado women's volleyball team opened the Courtyard by Marriott LIU Classic with a 3-0 victory over fellow Division I Independent Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by scores of 30-23, 30-24 and 30-19 on Friday morning at the Schwartz Center.
The trip across the country did not seem to affect the Bears (5-8) who won 3-0 for the third time this season. The win was the first for Northern Colorado at a neutral site this season in seven total attempts.
"It was a good offensive performance," head coach Lyndsey Benson said. "We could have been sharper with some of the mental errors we made, but overall a good match for us. Amanda was very efficient offensivley, as any ball we fed her she put away."
Northern Colorado improved to 4-0 all-time against the Islanders (5-4) and have yet to drop a set in those four matches against A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Bears continue play at the Long Island event later today when they play Iona at 3 p.m. Northern Colorado matches up with Florida Atlantic and host LIU on Saturday.
