Arnold continues hot October, lands another Big Sky award
OGDEN, Utah -- In recent weeks, Northern Colorado sophomore Kelley Arnold has hoisted the Bears volleyball team on her back as it continues its quest to better last season's historic run.
She slammed down a match-high 24 kills Saturday night at Sacramento State, for example, and also got to a career-high 18 digs in a 3-2 victory that moved Northern Colorado to 8-1 in conference play for just the first time since 1999.
The dominating performance was typical of Arnold's October (it was her fourth straight double-double), and it earned her Monday's Big Sky Conference Player of the Week award for matches played between Oct. 18-24.
This the second such honor for Arnold in her career, with the previous nod coming two weeks ago on Oct. 11.
Arnold averaged 3.60 digs and 4.80 kills per game in the five-game victory Saturday and hit at a .378 clip. She also had five assists and four blocks.
The effort helped the Bears knock off the Hornets for an eighth straight time (8-7 overall) and earn a key conference road win against a team that doesn't often lose at home. The defeat was the Hornets' first home conference loss this season and just their second overall in 2010.
