Volleyball Bears Look to Send Carter Out With A Bang
MATCH NOTES: vs. Northern Arizona
SOME STORY LINES
- Northern Colorado will close out its 2008 regular season
tonight against Northern Arizona. It’s Senior Night for the
Bears, who will celebrate the career accomplishments of senior
Lauren Carter (left) before the match.
- Carter came to the Bears out of Douglas County High School in
2005, and she was initially used as a defensive specialist on head
coach Lyndsey Benson’s first Northern Colorado squad. She
quickly was moved from that role, though, and was penciled in at
the setter spot … and the rest was history. She now ranks as
one of the Bears’ all-time bests at the position. She enters
her final home match tonight with an even 2000 assists, which ranks
her 7th all-time in program history.
- The Bears, who already defeated the Lumberjacks earlier this
season in Flagstaff, are also looking to gain some momentum tonight
with another win against Northern Arizona before beginning play in
the Big Sky Conference tournament, which will be held on Friday and
Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29, in Portland.
- The Lumberjacks, at 6-9 in the conference, are playing for their postseason-lives tonight. Any of the scenarios that could play out, though, start with Northern Arizona getting a win against Northern Colorado this evening. Sacramento State, which entered this week with seven conference losses with two matches remaining, would also have to lose twice for the Lumberjacks to advance.
