LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Northern Colorado sisters Tabatha and Tiffany Knop had exceptional showings last week at the Wilson/ITA Division I Women's Mountain Regional at the Darling Tennis Center.

The pair from Colorado Springs finished 3-2 in the open singles bracket and 2-2 in doubles play for head coach Brenda Vlasak.

"This is the best Tiffany and Tabatha have competed all fall," Vlasak said. "Both girls really elevated their game and rose to the occasion. I'm happy with the effort they gave in doubles play. They improved with each match."

Tabatha Knop began her exceptional run into the third round of the tournament with a bye in the first round and a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 hard-fought victory against Hailey Swenson of Southern Utah in round two. She was then bounced from the winner's bracket by BYU's McCall Jones, 6-0, 6-1. Her fall season later ended with a tough 7-5, 6-0 loss to the University of Nevada-Reno's Lais Ogata in the consolation bracket.

Tiffany Knop lost her first-round match to Idaho's Barbara Machiocha, 6-3, 7-5, but showed a lot of resiliency by rallying in the consolation bracket and defeating Montana's Kayla Moyse 6-2, 6-1. Her tournament run came to an end, however, with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Ogata, the same player who knocked out her sister.

The pair opened doubles play with a first-round win against Montana's Moyce and Constance Alexander, 8-2, before suffering an 8-3 defeat to Wyoming's Sasa Nemcova and Kim Van Ginkel.

In the consolation bracket, Tiffany Knop gained some revenge against Idaho's Machiocha, when she and her sister defeated her and Silvia Irimescu 9-7. In what turned out to be their final match of the fall, the Knops were defeated by Northern Arizona's Orsi Golovics and Mailia Wahinepio, 8-5.

Vlasak says she is confident that the positive results earned by the Bears in Las Vegas last week will carry over and lead to a productive 2010 spring season.
