GREELEY, Colo. - The Northern Colorado swimming & diving team heads to Houston to compete in the Conference USA Championship for just the third time in school history, beginning on Wednesday.

The Conference USA Championships are a four-day event with two sessions each day, the prelims in the morning and the event finals in the evening. There are six teams (East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, Rice, SMU, Tulane) along with three invitational members (Cal State Bakersfield, Northern Colorado, North Dakota) competing at the CRWC Natatorium, hosted by Houston.

SMU is the perennial favorite in the event and is ranked No. 18 in the CSCAA poll, while Houston is receiving votes in the same poll.

A year ago, the Bears scored 147 points behind the strength of Tori Gutt's school record of 2:20.71 in the 200 breaststroke where she placed seventh - an event she's swimming again this year. Gutt also swam in the consolation finals of the 400 IM, placing 14th in 4:31.42.

Sarah Cook advanced to the finals of the three-meter diving, finishing seventh overall with 238.65 points, while sister Kelly Schmeckpeper-Cook advanced to the finals in the one-meter event and placed seventh with 233.15 points.
