Second Day in Husker Land Sees Bears on the Move

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Northern Colorado's swimming and diving team moved up three spots in the team standings Friday at the Husker Invitational at the University of Nebraska.
The Bears came into the second day of the event in ninth place, but they ended Friday night ahead of South Dakota State, Nebraska-Omaha and Northern Iowa on the strength of solid performances in the preliminary and final heats of the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 500 free, the 200 individual medley, the 50 free, the 400 medley relay and the one-meter diving event.
Kelly Schmeckpeper-Cook had Northern Colorado's best finish of the day, coming in fifth out of 20 competitors on the one-meter board. She earned 18 team points for the Bears after notching a 238.90 in the preliminary and then erupting for a 247.25 in the final.
The event is scheduled to continue until Sunday.
