Idaho at Northern Colorado
Despite both schools being located in close to the same region, the Vandals and the Bears will go to battle for just the third time on Friday. Before Friday’s game at Jackson Stadium, both teams have won a game in the series. Last year, Northern Colorado beat Idaho 1-0 in a hard-fought game played at Boise State. The two teams also met in 2005 when Idaho defeated the Bears 2-1.
The Vandals come into Greeley with a record of 0-1 after losing 2-1 on the road against UC-Irvine. The team was hampered by both a slow start and injuries to Breanna Wilson and Megan Lopez, both key players. The team played much better in the second-half, outscoring the Anteaters 1-0 in the final 45 minutes. Last season, Idaho finished with a record of 9-10 and finished in eighth place in the WAC.
Northern Colorado at Colorado
The Bears leave the comfortable confines of Greeley once again on Sunday when they travel up to Boulder to face instate-rival Colorado. Northern Colorado has had its share of troubles against the Buffaloes and is looking to beat Colorado for the first time in school-history. In 2009, the two teams met at Prentup Field as the Buffaloes handed the Bears a 2-1 loss.
Colorado won its first game of the 2010 season after beating Wyoming 2-0 at home. Although the Buffs finished 2009 with a losing record of 9-10, the team finished third in the Big 12, finishing 6-4 in conference-play. Colorado met Texas in the first-round of the Big 12 Tournament and fell 1-0 to the Longhorns in double-overtime.
