Solid game leads to victory for Bears soccer

 BOX SCORE

BOISE, Idaho - Northern Colorado soccer used the whole bench today in a 1-0 victory over the Idaho Vandals in the first of two games at the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Boise State. This puts the Bears to 3-2-0 on the season going into Sunday's game against Boise State.

The Bears dominated possession of the ball during the game, firing seven shots with two on goal in the first half. The score remained locked up at 0-0 going into the half, however.

It was not until the 78th minute of the match up that freshman Alexsys Tamayo was able to put in the game winning goal for the team. Tamayo took a corner kick from senior Sydney VanderVelde to score he first goal of the season just past Vandal goalkeeper Liz Boyden.

The Bears outshot Idaho 16-8 with sophomore goalkeeper Kirsten Salminen only having to provide the Bears with two saves on the day.

"I am really pleased with how the group played," said head coach Tim Barrera, "The back four were really organized and played a really solid game. It was really a team effort."

Northern Colorado will wind up the weekend with a Sunday matchup at 1:30 p.m. against the Boise State Broncos before a 10 day break.
