Wrestling Competes At Bob Smith/Fort Hays State Open Saturday

GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado wrestling team will travel to Hays, Kan., on Saturday to compete in the Bob Smith/Fort Hays State Open at Gross Memorial Coliseum. More than 300 wrestlers are expected to compete.
Other teams expected to compete include: Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Central Oklahoma, Chadron State (Neb.), Labette Community College (Kan.), Pima Community College (Ariz.), Neosho Community College (Kan.), Colby Community College (Kan.), Colorado Mines, Nebraska-Kearney, Newman University (Kan.), Western State, New Mexico Highlands, Wyoming, Bacone (Okla.) and Missouri Valley College.
The Bears recently competed on Nov. 19 at the Northern Colorado Old Chicago Open at Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion. At that meet, Tony Mustari (unattached), Kenny Hashimoto (unattached) and Nathan Gerrard each won individual titles.
Hashimoto was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the meet for his performance in the 141 pound category. Hashimoto won a 6-4 decision in the finals of that weight group. Mustari defeated the No. 1 Talon Vickers of Utah Valley State 3-1 in the finals of the 125 pound group. Gerrard scored a 6-4 sudden death victory over Luke Salazar in the final match of the 157 pound category.
