Nelson, Dougherty help women's golf to seventh at Shocker Invite

NEWTON, Kan. -- Sophmore Ali Nelson and junior Emily Dougherty finished tied for 21st on Tuesday at the Wichita State Shocker Invitational, and Northern Colorado finished seventh as a team at the par-72 two-round tournament at Sand Creek Station.

Nelson shot idential 13-over-par 85s to finish with a 170 (+26) during the event's two rounds, while Dougherty shot an 83 on Monday before coming back Tuesday afternoon with an 87. 

Sisters Carleigh and Chelsea Silvers were right behind for the Bears at the invite, finishing tied for 28th with two-day totals of 176 (+32).

Freshman Hannah McNeley rounded out the Bears' contingent with a 181 (+37).

North Texas senior Jordan Rose took event-medalist honors after shooting a 148 (+4), including a tourney best 73 on Tuesday.

Rose's Mean Green also took the team title in Newton, shooting a two-day score of 633 (+57). The host Shockers finished second (654) and Missouri-Kansas City came in third (660).

This was the final event of the fall season for Northern Colorado. They will now take a break before returning to the links this spring.
