Sophomore Nelson leads women's golf at season-opening Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Northern Colorado women's golf struggled to a 15th-place showing Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, hosted by Colorado State University.

Sophomore Ali Nelson, who finished last season with an individual Big Sky Conference title, paced the Bears effort at Ptarmigan Country Club with a 17-over-par 233 to finish in a tie for 66th place.

Nelson shot a pair of 77s Monday, on the first day of the event, and followed up Tuesday with a 79. She was followed on the leaderboard by teammate sisters Carleigh and Chelsea Silvers. Carleigh Silvers finished in sole possession of 68th place (+18, 234) and Chelse was right behind in a tie for 69th (+19, 235).

Louisville's Laura Anderson (-10, 206) finished atop the Ptarmigan leaderboard, and Idaho was the top team, carding a three-round team total of 859.
