Freshmen Lead the Charge in Arizona
SEDONA, Ariz. – The Northern Colorado women’s golf team finished 14th at the NAU Red Rocks Invitational over the weekend, carding a combined score of 671 (341,330).
As a team, the Bears combined for seven birdies and 68 pars on the weekend.
The Bears were led by freshman Chelsea Silvers who tallied an
overall score of 160, and finished the weekend at 16 over par tying
her for 25th. Both Silvers’ best round and an overall best
for the team came in the second where she shot a 77.
Freshman Ali Nelson was the next best finisher for the Bears completing her weekend with a score of 166 (84, 82), which placed her at 22 over par and tied for 57th. Older sister, senior Matti Nelson, left the tournament at 29 over par with a score of 173 (85, 88) and tied for 73rd.
Senior Katie Avery saw great improvement from her first to second round where in the first round she shot an 89 and improved six strokes shooting just 83 in the second. Avery would finish the tournament at 28 over par and tied for 71st. Sophomore Abby McNeley finished in 94th, carding a 182 (89, 93) at 38 over par.
The women’s golf team will have two weeks to regroup before traveling to Honolulu, Hawai’i where they will play in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on March 16-18.
