Women's Basketball Chosen To Finish Seventh In Big Sky

OGDEN, Utah - The University of Northern Colorado women's basketball team was selected to finish seventh in their first season of the Big Sky Conference by both the media and coaches, announced by the conference office on Thursday.

The Bears, who are led by first-year head coach Jaime White, finished 13-15 overall last season as an independent and beat Big Sky Conference Tournament runner-up Weber State 65-51 on Jan. 4. Northern Colorado returns Heather Barbour, who was an All-Division I Independent honorable mention after averaging 11.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

Defending Big Sky regular season champion Idaho State and Montana tied for first in the coaches poll, while defending Big Sky Tournament Champion Northern Arizona claimed the top spot in the media poll.

Northern Colorado begins its season first with an exhibition against Regis University at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at the newly-renovated Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion. The Bears will then head to Kansas City, Mo., to take on the UMKC Kangaroos at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday, Nov. 11. Northern Colorado kicks off its conference schedule at 7:05 p.m. MT on Jan. 4 against the Weber State Wildcats in Ogden, Utah.
