GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado women's basketball team officially kicks off its season this weekend with the official start of practice for the 2005-06 season.
By new NCAA rules, the first official practice can be no earlier than 7 p.m. local time on Friday, Oct. 14. The women's team will first practice on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
"We are optimistic about this season as we get ready to start practice," women's head coach Ron Vlasin said. "We have a lot of quality returnees, are more experienced and have better depth this season. We also had three quality newcomers and all of that should help us be prepared to face another tough schedule."
The women's team was 12-16 last season and return 13 players and three starters from that team. The Bears open the regular season on Nov. 18 when they travel to Air Force.
