GREELEY, Colo. - New University of Northern Colorado head men's and women's basketball coaches, Tad Boyle and Jaime White, were introduced to the media and public for the first time on Friday, April 28 at the High Plains Club Room at Nottingham Field.
"We are entering a new era of Northern Colorado athletics," Director of Athletics Jay S. Hinrichs said at the event. "Moving into the Big Sky Conference and continuing our facility renovations projects are just a few examples of what is happening here. The goal was to bring the best head coaches to our sport programs that we could, and I think we have accomplished that goal."
Boyle, a Greeley native, was named head coach on April 25 after spending six seasons at Wichita State University.
"It is great to be coming home," Boyle said. "I would not be here if it was not for (Director of Athletics) Jay Hinrichs, (President) Kay Norton and (V.P. for University Advancement) Ken McConnellogue. I appreciate the opportunity they have given me. I hope to take this program to levels it has never seen before. I don't know how long it will take to win at Big Sky Championship, but I will not stop working until we get there."
White took over the program on April 13 after three seasons as an assistant coach at Wyoming.
"I am extremely excited to be here and grateful and thankful for the opportunity to lead this team into the Big Sky Conference," White said. "Greeley is a great community, this is a great University and we have some great student-athletes here right now. It is exciting to think where we can take this program over the next several years. Although we cannot play in the NCAA Tournament next season, we can be invited to play in the WNIT and that will be one of our goals."
Announcements about their staffs and schedules for next season will be forthcoming in future weeks.
