Women's hoops pegged third by coaches and media

OGDEN, Utah – With the start of the women's basketball season just around the corner, the Big Sky Conference announced Wednesday the Preseason polls and Northern Colorado has been chosen to finish third by both the coaches and media.

The Bears received 81 points and two first-place votes from the coaches and four first-place votes and 268 points from the media. UNC finished second in the league with a 21-13 overall and 15-5 conference record in 2013 and returns nine letterwinners off that team. The Bears are coming off a WNIT Tournament appearance – their third-straight post-season bid – where they won the first round against Wyoming and lost in the second round to Saint Mary's.

Northern Colorado kicks off the 2013 season on Oct. 25, hosting Colorado State Pueblo for an exhibition game at 5 p.m. The regular season begins on Nov. 9 when the Bears host San Diego at 2 p.m. Season tickets are available for purchase online at www.unco.edu/tickets or by calling the Northern Colorado box office at 970-351-4849.

Eastern Washington was selected to win the league by both groups, garnering six first place votes by the coaches and 20 from the media. Montana was picked second in both polls, while Montana State and Idaho State round out the top five, respectively.

The top six in the final regular season standings advance to the Big Sky Conference Championship which will take place March 13-15 at the site of the regular season champion.
