Brown earns a pair of player of the week honors
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Colorado’s Kaisha Brown has been named Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the games played the week of Dec. 13 through Dec. 18 by both the Big Sky Conference and College Sports Madness. This is the first weekly award of Browns career.
Brown averaged 15.0 points per game in a split on a long, hard road trip for the Bears. The team was on a nine-day trip which started in South Dakota, then games on Tuesday at UTEP (lost, 51-74) and New Mexico (won, 61-54) on Thursday.
Against undefeated UTEP, Brown led the team with five rebounds and four assists and scored eight points with one steal. At New Mexico, in front of 6,434 hostile fans, Brown scored a career-best 22 points, draining 4-of-7 three pointers with two assists and four rebounds.
For the week, Brown shot .524 from the field and .462 from beyond the arc, well above her .370 and .318 averages before the two games. She also averaged more than twice her season average in rebounds at 4.5 and had a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Her 15.0 points per game average for the week was well above her 9.1 entering the week and her senior leadership helped the Bears win in the Pit for the first time since 1976 (had lost three straight). Brown also notched her 300th career rebound at UTEP and now has 307.
