Strong Showing At Early Bird Has Swimming Finish Second

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado
swimming & diving team had a strong second day showing at the
Early Bird Invitational, hosted by Colorado State. The Bears
finished in second place with 645.5 total points.
Sarah Cook and Kelly Schmeckpepper-Cook swept the two spots in
the one-meter diving, scoring 245.95 and 242.05 points,
respectively.
The second day started with the 200 yard medley relay, in which
the Bears' quartet of Sam Leonard, Ashley Bunch, Nicole Lydin and
JJ Smith finished fifth in 1:56.50 behind four CSU teams.
Tori Gutt placed second in the 400 yard IM with her time of
4:42.13, while Chesney Randolph placed third in the 100 yard
butterfly clocked a 1:00.77 and then came back to finish second in
the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.01. Also in the 100
backstroke, Leonard was fifth and Cheryl Bready was sixth in
1:02.30 and 1:02.33, respectively.
The group of Dawn Adams, Bready, Whitney Dahms and Randolph
placed third in the 800 freestyle relay. Freshman Brogan Beyette
and Dahms placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the 1650
freestyle.
The Bears next compete on November 6, when they host New Mexico
in a relay meet. Action is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. in the
Butler-Hancock Pool.
