Northern Colorado comes up short against Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. -- Northern Colorado was unable to defeat
Colorado in the teams' final exhibition of the season Sunday in a
2-1 loss to the Buffs.
Colorado scored early with a goal from Kelly Menachof, getting
past sophomore goalkeeper Kirsten Salminen almost three minutes
into the game. On the play, Caroline Danneburg crossed the ball to
Menachof, who got the ball in the net on the left side.
Northern Colorado freshmen Alexsys Tamayo later tied the game
1-1 and scored her second goal of the exhibition season in the 15th
minute when she scored unassisted off a rebound from Colorado
goalkeeper Kara Linder.
The score remained tied until 63:34, when Colorado's Erin
Bricker scored the game-winning goal for the Buffaloes. Shayne
Marshall took the ball in for a shot but was deflected. Bricker
then took control of the ball and tapped it into the goal to put
the score at 2-1.
The Bears were outshot by the Buffs 23-13 in the game, with
Salminen tallying eight saves overall.
Northern Colorado will now move on to open its regular season
against Nebraska at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Jackson Stadium.
