Bears soccer falls to New Mexico

BOX SCORE

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - At the halfway point of the season Bears soccer fell short in a game against the New Mexico Lobos in a 3-1 loss dropping Northern Colorado to 3-4-1 on the season. The Lobos improved to 8-0-2.

This game was the last of a long stand of away games for the Bears who have not played at Jackson Stadium since August 30th.

Northern Colorado was outshot 10-1 in the first half of the matchup but improved to 10-8 by the second half. It was in the second half that freshman Danielle Birdsall scored an unassisted goal to avoid the shutout for the Bears.

Already facing a 3-1 deficit the Bears ended the game with a strong final push that included three shots and a corner kick all in the last 10 minutes of the game. Birdsall's shot in the 83rd minute was saved by New Mexico's Kelli Cornell providing Cornell with her only save of the game.

Sophmore Kimmie Feidler made a shot that was blocked in the final minute as well as a corner kick with only 10 seconds remaining.

The Bears return home to Jackson Stadium this weekend as they face Creighton at noon on Sunday.
