Northern Colorado-dominated game ends in loss for Bears soccer

GREELEY, Colo. -- Even though Northern Colorado
dominated the game on Sunday the Bears came away with a loss
against the Hartford Hawks with a score of 1-0. This puts the Bears
at 1-2-0 going into next week's games.
Northern Colorado recorded four of the six shots made in the
first fifteen minutes of the match, two of which came from
sophomore Kimmie Fiedler. It was at 14:46 when Hartford's Alex
Uscilla took a pass from Laura Guigli at the top of the box and
scored on a shot just out of reach from sophomore Kirsten Salminen.
The Bears had many close shots in the game, including a break
away from freshman Alexsys Tamayo in the first half, coming as one
of the four shots on goal for Northern Colorado in the first half.
In the second half the Bears put more pressure on Hartford with
eight shots on goal, including a free kick in front of the goal,
but the team was unable to find the net.
Making a big impact for Northern Colorado was freshman Danielle
Birdsall who came off the bench to make three of the teams 12 shots
on goal.
Northern Colorado recorded 22 shots in the game and had 12 shots
on goal, compared to the two shot on goal from the Hawks.
"We put a lot of pressure on them but it just wasn't our day,"
said head coach Tim Barrera, "It definitely was a different kind of
game for us, and I thought we managed then really well."
The team will move on to face in-state rival Air Force at 6 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 4, at Cadet Soccer Stadium at the Air Force Academy.
