Bears Soccer Splits Weekend With Victory Over Air Force
Ariel Cook (photo by Barry LaPoint) Northern Colorado rebounded from the Friday loss to Bryant
to overtake the Air Force Falcons 2-1 in overtime on Sunday. The
Bears improve to 6-4 in the series against the Falcons and 1-1-0 on
the season. Air Force moves to 0-1-0.
The Bears struck first with an unassisted goal from senior
Jessica Zimmerman six minutes into the game. This was Zimmerman's
first goal of the season after scoring three goals in 2007.
Senior Ashley Brumback provided Northern Colorado with strong
defensive plays stopping two break-away attempts made by the
Falcons in the first half.
At half time the score remained at 1-0 until Megan Eisselle of
Air Force headed in the tying goal off of a corner kick provided by
Rachael Emory at 76:58.
The Bears held off the Falcons and took the game into the team's
second overtime in as many days.
After a throw in Brittany Knott assisted freshman Ariel Cook
with the game winning goal only five minutes into the extra period.
This was Cooks first goal of her career at Northern Colorado.
"I never though I would be making those kinds of plays this
early," Cook said.
The Bears were provided a physical game by the Falcons who
fouled 18 times in the game and were given two yellow cards. The
Bears only had five fouls and one yellow card.
The Bears will continue the four game homestand against the San
Francisco Dons at Jackson Stadium on August 29 at 7 p.m.
