Bears Soccer Picked Second In Coaches Poll

After surprising many with a second-place finish in 2007,
Northern Colorado Soccer has tied Weber State for second place in
the 2008 Big Sky preseason coaches' poll. The Bears received 37
points and two first-place votes -- one more than Weber State.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Last season the Bears, who were picked seventh in the preseason,
beat Weber State 3-1 to make it into their first championship game
since joining the Big Sky. The Bears fell to Sacramento State 3-0
in the title game.
This season Northern Colorado will bring in eight new players,
including senior-transfer MaryAnn Hoke from the University of
Connecticut. Returning to the Bears as a graduate assistant coach
is two-time ESPN The Magazine All-District team member
Marika Johnson. Johnson led the Bears in 2007 with three goals and
two assists.
The Bears start the 2008 season on August 22 in a match against
Bryant University.
