Silvers sisters lead the way for women's golf in Denver

DENVER, Colo. -- The Silvers sister led the way for Northern Colorado golf this week at Denver's Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate.

Carleigh Silvers, a freshman from Martinsville, Ind., and Chelsea Silvers, a sophomore, shot identical 240 three-day totals during the tournament at Highlands Ranch Golf Club to finish tied for 47th overall.

The Bears, with a 968 team total, finished in 12th, coming in ahead of Big Sky-rival Montana State.

Carleigh Silvers shot an 8-over-par 80 during the final round Wednesday to go along with her 83 on day one and 77 on day two to finish +24 for the event.

Chelsea Silvers' best round came Tuesday, when she carded a 3-over-par 75, and she also turned in an 86 on Monday and a 79 Wednesday.

Emily Dougherty, a junior from Portola Valley, Calif., finished tied for 57th and was the only other Northern Colorado player to earn a top-60 finish in Denver. She shot the Bears' best round of the tourney Wednesday when she carded an even-par 72 to finish with a 245 three-day total.

The host Pioneers won the event after shooting 879 over the three days. DU's Stephanie Sherlock earned tournament medalist honors with a 1-under-215.

UC Davis came in second (893) and was followed by Baylor (898), Iowa State (911) and Illinois (912).
