Women's Basketball Evens Record With Win At San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Northern Colorado women's basketball team evened its record to 6-6 on the year with a 69-46 victory over San Jose State on Friday evening. The Spartans fall to 1-12 on the year.

 

Junior guard Jamie Schroeder tied her career high with 18 points, led the game with nine rebounds and notched a career-most four assists in the win. Freshman guard Courtney Stoermer chipped in 17 points, with 13 coming in the first half. Senior center Danielle Hagen also notched three steals.

 

San Jose State was led by Brittany Powell off the bench with 16 points and six rebounds, while Myosha Barnes led the Spartans with four assists and both Sayja Sumler and Brittany Imaku each had two steals.

 

The Bears led by just five at the break as both teams struggled from the three-point line with NC making just 1-of-10 and the Spartans sinking just 1-of-7. After shooting .393 from the field in the first stanza, the Bears stepped up their performance in the second half, shooting .458 from the floor and .462 (6-13) from beyond the arc.

 

Northern Colorado used its entire active roster in the game and all 10 players scored at least one point, with freshman center Lexie Boyce scoring her first career point off a free throw.

 

The Bears out-rebounded the Spartans, 36-28 and were just one steal shy of their season high with eight.

 

Northern Colorado heads to Moraga to face St. Mary's in its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
