Women's Basketball Falls 64-62 At Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Two turnovers in the final minute of the game seemed to sink the University of Northern Colorado women's basketball team as they fell 64-62 to the Sacramento State Hornets Thursday evening. The Bears even their season record at 10-10 and are 4-3 in Big Sky Conference play, while the Hornets improve to 5-15 overall and 3-5 in league action.
Senior center Danielle Hagen continued her outstanding play, recording her fourth double-double of the year with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore guard Chelsie Luhring scored a career-high 15 points and freshman guard Courtney Stoermer added 10. Junior guard Jamie Schroeder led the game with a career-high seven assists and Hagen added two blocked shots, which ties her for tenth in school history with 53.
Sacramento State had a double-double of its own with 24 points and 12 rebounds by Atty Boyer, while Sami Field-Polisso scored 11 and Charday Hunt chipped in 10. Field-Polisso also had seven assists and was one of three Hornets with three steals.
Northern Colorado out-rebounded Sacramento State 33-32 and shot .500 from the field, but managed to hit just 2-of-13 from beyond the arc (.154) and 6-of-11 from the free throw line (.545). The Hornets shot .472 from the field, .231 (2-of-13) from the three-point line and .647 (11-of-17) from the charity stripe.
The women's team plays at Northern Arizona Saturday at 6:35 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on FOX Sports Arizona (Dish Network 9411).
