Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Behind a career-high 29 points by senior center Danielle Hagen, the University of Northern Colorado women's basketball team won its fourth straight with a 75-65 victory at Montana State Thursday evening. The Bears improve to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in Big Sky Conference play, while the Bobcats fall to 8-10 on the year and 3-3 in league action.

 

Hagen, who hails from Sidney, Mont., also led the club with eight rebounds and had five assists, playing the entire 40 minutes in front of several family and friends. Junior guard Jamie Schroeder scored 17 points and led the team with six assists and freshman guard Courtney Stoermer added 15 points and a career-high five steals. She and sophomore guard Lizzie Cooper also played the whole game as the Bears played just six in the game.

 

Montana State was led by Rebecca Mercer with 14 points, while Nubia Garcia and Sarah Strand each scored 12 and Jenny Heringer chipped in 10. Krislyn Wallace had a game-high nine rebounds and Heringer led the team with four assists. Erica Perry also tallied five steals for the Bobcats.

 

Northern Colorado shot .558 from the field, shattering the previous season-high of .480 from the win over Eastern Washington. The Bears also shot .400 from the three-point line (6-15) and .808 (21-26) from the free throw line. Montana State shot .369 from the field and just .176 (3-17) from beyond the arc and .778 (14-18) from the charity stripe. The Bears out-rebounded the Bobcats 34-32.

 

The Bears now travel to Missoula, to take on the Montana Lady Griz on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
