Gail Gagne

Gail Gagne joins the Bears for her first season as an assistant coach after spending three years as a power forward for the Northern Colorado program. Gagne graduated in 2005 from UNC with a degree in journalism and mass communications and was a UNC Scholar Athlete. As a player, she was a team leader for the Bears and provided the Bears with a strong inside physical presence. In her senior campaign, she helped lead Northern Colorado to big victories over UTEP and Utah State and a runner-up finish at the 2005 Division I Independent Championship Tournament. "As a player, Gail represented everything we want our program to stand for," said head coach Ron Vlasin. "We know she will do the same as a coach. We're happy to have her on our staff." Gagne's coaching responsibilities include coordinating the team's film exchange program, assisting with team defense, assisting with post player development and assisting with recruiting.
Career highlights 2004-05: Played in all 28 games ... drew 13 starting assignments including a stretch of 12 straight games from Dec. 17 through Feb. 9 ... took advantage of her first start of the season (second in her career) as she grabbed three rebounds and helped the Bears to a 59-52 win at UTEP on Dec. 17 ... scored a season-high five points on two occasions ... grabbed at least one rebound in 19 games ... made her first career three-pointer in her final home game against Western State on Feb. 19.

2003-04: Played in 25 games, starting Jan. 6 contests against CU-Colorado Springs ... started the season by making her first 11 field goal attempts, not missing an attempt until the UCCS game (Jan. 6) ... finished season hitting 20-25 (80.0%) of field goal attempts ... recorded steal with 2:17 left in game against Western State (Dec. 2), marking the 25th steal for the Bears on the night which broke a 25-year old school ... equaled career-high with six points on 2-3 shooting in win over Colorado College (Feb. 7) ... grabbed career-best five rebounds in nine minutes of playing time at Adams State (Feb. 21) ... scored six points, had four rebounds, dished out career-best four assists and two steals in season-high 15 minutes of playing time against Colorado College (Feb. 7) ... also dished out four assists against Regis (Jan. 14).

2002-03: Sat out season as a redshirt after suffering a knee injury in preseason practice.

2001-02: Played in 20 games as a true freshman ... set career-highs with six points, three rebounds and two steals in nine minutes of playing time in game against North Dakota (Dec. 29) ... finished the season by knocking down the last eight free-throws she attempted ... finished season with 71.4% free-throw percentage ... grabbed six offensive rebounds.

Prep: All-Conference selection as junior and senior for head coach Tom Cody at Cretin-Derham Hall High ... selected as squad's Defensive and Hustle Player of the Year as a senior ... team won 68 consecutive St. Paul City Conference games during her career, which included 36-straight home victories ... squad finished third in the state as a sophomore ... four-year winner of Distinguished Academic Achievement Award.

Personal: Born Nov. 6, 1982 in St. Louis Park, Minn. ... daughter of Greg and Mary Gagne ... majoring in speech communication and journalism ... granddaughter of legendary professional wrestler and AWA World Heavyweight Champion Verne Gagne and daughter of former professional wrestler and AWA Tag Team Champion Greg Gagne ... brother J.P. was one of the top pitchers for the Notre Dame baseball team and now plays in the Colorado Rockies farm system.
