Softball Team to Host Pitchers and Catchers Clinic on February 23

2003 UNC Softball Pitchers & Catchers Clinic
Date & Location: February 23, 2003 at Butler-Hancock Gym
Time: 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. AND 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Ages: 8-12 years old (first session) and 13 and up (second session, NOW FILLED!)
Cost: $40.00
Note:Pre-Registration is required! Camps are limited to 15 pitchers and catchers each. Bring your own gear and equipment. No cleats allowed. Wear appropriate court shoes.

About the Clinic: Instruction for the 8-12 yr. old pitchers will focus on: 4-step progression for the windmill pitch, mental skills, adjusting during the game, practice drills and games, communication with your catcher and injury prevention.

Instruction for pitchers who are 13 yrs. of age and older will focus on: Fine tuning effective mechanics and age specific content of the above mentioned topics (such as specific visualization and mental rehersal sequences). In addition: calling your game with your catcher, game situation challenges, reading batter's tendencies, dialogue with collegiate pitchers and catchers and being recruited.

Instruction for the 8-12 yr. old catchers will focus on: Fundamentals of stance, framing, blocking, throw downs, fielding bunts, tag plays, injury prevention and communication with umpires and your pitcher.

Instruction for catchers who are 13 yrs. and older will focus on: Fine tuning effective mechanics and age specific content of the above mentioned skills. In addition: reading batter's tendencies, pick-offs, verbal skills and importance of using your voice, dialogue with collegiate catchers and pitchers and being recruited.

Check - in: 30 minutes prior to the start time. Enter through the west doors of Butler-Hancock Gym on the UNC campus.

About Coach Witt:
- North Central Conference Co-Coach of the Year in 2002.
- Earned numerous state, regional, and national awards for excellence in teaching and coaching.
- Two-time Hall of Fame inductee at the University of Northern Colorado.
- As a multi-sport athlete, and as a team member of the 1978 Softball Team, which finished second in the Women's College World Series. The 1978 Softball Team was the first team ever inducted into the UNC Hall of Fame.
- UNC softball teams she competed on earned three regional championships and repeated trips to the Women's College World Series, where UNC placed no lower than fifth.
- Competed at the national level in three sports in college.
- Has directed and taught numerous softball camps and clinics for coaches and players.

How to register: Call the UNC Athletics Department (351-2055) to check on the availability of space to attend. If there is space to register, complete the below registration form and mail it in with your deposit of $20.00.

Application Deadline: You MUST register prior to the clinic date. Postmark deadline is Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 OR you may reserve your spot and bring your check to the UNC Athletics Office, 208 Butler-Hancock Hall BEFORE Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at 5 p.m.

Medical Release Statement and Medical Facilities: As legal guardian of the participant, I verify that my child has been checked by a licensed physician and is physically able to participate in the 2003 UNC Pitchers & Catchers Softball Clinic . I agree to allow my child to be treated by a licensed physical or emergency medical personnel while attending, if necessary, and to assume all cost related to such treatment. An athletic trainer will be on site during the instructional sessions of the camp.

Proof of Insurance: Proof of primary insurance is required at the time of registration.

Check-In: Will be at Butler-Hancock Gymnasium 30 minutes prior to the start of the session. Please enter through the west doors of the gym.
