Softball Shut Out in Doubleheader at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah - The University of Northern Colorado softball squad fell in a pair of contests at Utah State on Thursday. The Aggies won game one, 12-0, and followed it up with an 8-0 victory in game two.

Utah State improved to 9-21 on the season, while Northern Colorado fell to 8-19 overall. Northern Colorado will travel to Orem, Utah, on Friday and Saturday for a pair of doubleheaders against Utah Valley State.

GAME ONE
Utah State wasted little time getting to Bears' starter Kelsey Dumler. The Aggies scored two in the first and then added three runs in the second to open up a 5-0 advantage.

The Aggies put up four more runs in the third to make it 9-0 after three innings.

Northern Colorado head coach Linda Witt then brought in freshman pitcher Monique Obra in relief of Dumler. Obra gave up four hits and three runs in an inning of work.

The Bears failed to score in the top of the fifth and the Aggies took the contest, 12-0.

Northern Colorado was held to only three hits in the first game. Sophomore Casey Hogue, freshman Kati Miller and freshman Mackenzie Barrett each collected a single in the game.

GAME TWO
The Aggies continued their run assault in game two by notching four first-inning runs. Utah State added a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings to close out the Bears, 8-0, in only five innings of play for the second straight game.

Dumler led the Bears' hitters with a pair of hits in the second game. Senior Whitney Platten and freshman Heather Beffert collected the Bears' other two hits in the contest.

Dumler (5-12) worked the second game as well and gave up nine hits and eight runs (seven earned). She struck out two and walked two.
