UNC Drops Doubleheader To Colorado State, 8-1 & 6-5

UNC got a taste of Division I softball on Thursday as the Colorado State Rams came to Greeley to take on the Bears in a doubleheader. CSU walked away with an 8-1 win in game one and a 6-5 come-from-behind win game two.
CSU improved to 8-6 on the season, while UNC fell to 2-2 overall.
The Bears were only able to muster one hit in the contest but turned that hit into a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, CSU was on its way to pounding out 14 hits in the game and rolled to an 8-1 victory.
The Bears scored in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Erin Peterson. Megan Massey was nearly unhittable in the circle for the Rams as she allowed only the one hit and struck out eight UNC hitters.
Cristin Dumler (1-1 overall) suffered the loss for UNC as she pitched a complete game but gave up 14 hits and eight runs (six earned) while walking three and striking out two.
The Bears got their bats going in game two as they jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings of play. A two-run double by pitcher Stacey Moon, followed by a two-run homer to right field by Rachel Van Hook allowed UNC to build the four-run advantage.
CSU rallied with a a single run in the fourth followed by a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Yet with a final inning to play UNC and CSU stood tied at 5-5.
The Rams scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead and UNC was unable to get a runner on base in the bottom of the seventh and suffered the loss.
Reliever Stephani Miller took the loss as she inherited a 5-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Miller pitched two innings and gave up five hits and three runs (two earned). Miller fell to 0-1 on the season.
