GREELEY -- Thursday's softball game between Northern Colorado and Colorado-Colorado Springs will have to wait until next year.

The Mountain Lions on Monday submitted a request to cancel this week's nonconference game at Butler-Hancock Softball Field, citing limited personnel as they head into a pivotal RMAC series this weekend against Colorado School of Mines.

Northern Colorado head coach Mark Montgomery honored the request with the understanding that UCCS would fulfill the game contract next season, with a game to be played on an undetermined date.

The Bears (13-31, 9-3 Pacific Coast Softball Conference) will now turn their attention toward a key weekend home series against Portland State (21-15, 9-3). Both teams are tied atop the PCSC's Mountain Division with just two weekends left in the regular season.

This season's winner of the Mountain Division will host this year's PCSC Championship Series, where an NCAA Tournament berth will be on the line.
