Sept. 20, 2007

GREELEY, Colo.-The Northern Colorado men's tennis team will kick off its fall season with a home match against Colorado Christian University on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Butler-Hancock Tennis Center at 2:30 p.m.

The women's team started their season last weekend at the Wyoming Invitational, Sept. 14-16, where the team combined for 15 singles wins. Juniors Tabatha Knop and Manuela Santos both reached the championship match of their respective brackets. The freshman team of Natalia Agarycheva and Jodi Ciarvella, despite only having practiced together for a little over two weeks, were the Brown Doubles Champion with three victories.

The men will warm up with their match against Colorado Christian before heading to Albuquerque, N.M to participate in the Balloon Festival, Oct. 5-7. The Bears return four letterwinners from last year's team that finished 4-14 and 1-6 in the inaugural season of Big Sky Conference play. Among the returnees is graduate student Kollman Gearhart, who finished second on the team with four wins last season.

The women's team will next take the court and head to the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo. from Sept. 28-30.
