Weyhrich, Gearhart Selected for Academic All-Independent Team

Weyhrich, a senior from Englewood, Colo., posted a 3.53 GPA in history. As a team leader, he helped lead the team from an 0-18 record in 2005 to a 4-14 showing in 2006, as well the team's first victory over a Division I squad since reclassifying to Division I in 2003-04 with a 7-0 win over South Dakota State on Feb. 12. The Bears also picked up wins over Division I foes UMKC and IUPUI this season.
Gearhart, a sophomore from Parker, Colo., had a team-best 3.65 GPA in recreation. He was led the team in doubles victories with six along with teammate Austin Nunn. Gearhart was also tied for second in singles wins with seven.
The 2006 Division I Independent Men's Tennis All-Academic team was selected by sports information directors from independent institutions the College of the Holy Cross, Longwood University, the University of Northern Colorado, and South Dakota State University. Nominations were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA, were at least a sophomore athletically and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches.
