Three Bears to join Men's Tennis for 2014-15
GREELEY -- Northern Colorado Men's Tennis lose two familiar faces from 2013-14 but welcome in three freshman for the 2014-15 season in Connor Finerty, John Jacob and Cassell King.
The three incoming freshman with the returning six will put the team total at nine student-athletes for the 2014-15 season. The freshmen will join the squad that earned a postseason appearance for the first time in the Division I era. Head Coach Mike Phillips expects these incoming athletes to make an immediate impact.
Finerty, from Muskogee, Okla., is the No. 15 ranked player in the Missouri Valley section while playing at Muskogee High School. He also just finished second at the Oklahoma State Tournament at the 6A level, comprised of the largest high schools in Oklahoma.
King, from Henderson, Nev., is the No. 5 ranked player in the Intermountain section and recently won the Intermountain Sectional Championship in doubles. He played his interscholastic career with Nevada Virtual Academy.
Jacob already shares a connection with his new teammate Austin Mayo: The two hail from Austin, Texas. Jacob graduated from Vandegrift High School where he earned varsity letters in tennis all four years. He also qualified for regionals in doubles all four years, where he started in the No. 1 spot. Jacob became a Texas State Semi-finalist in doubles during his sophomore season before again qualifying for the state tournament as a senior.
