VICTOR, Idaho – The Northern Colorado men's golf team kicked off its fall exhibition season, Saturday, with a dual match against South Dakota State at the Headwaters Club at Teton Springs Resort.

The Bears finished the round with a combined score of 297 (+9), while the Jackrabbits finished with a 284 (-4).

"The results are a little disappointing," Northern Colorado coach Chuck Scheinost said. "But at the same time, I thought we got some nerves out. The match served its purpose in that it got us out on the course a day before the tournament started and hopefully got our young guys some experience."

Ben Krueger led the way for Northern Colorado, as he finished with a 2-under par 70, the third best score of the dual.

Freshmen Steven Kupcho and Charlie Mroz got their first taste of collegiate competition. Kupcho finished with a 2-over par 74, while Mroz shot a 3-over par 75.

"I thought Ben (Krueger) played a solid round for us," Scheinost said. "It was also good to see some of our freshmen near the top for us."

Kyle Fanning shot a 6-over par 78, while Kevin Collignon rounded out the team scoring with a 10-over par 82.

While participating individually, sophomore Jake Hutton put together the best round of any Bear, as he shot a 3-under par 69.

The Bears continue their stay in Idaho on Monday, Sept. 5, when they compete in the Battle in the Tetons.
