Men's Basketball To Entertain Dinky Dunkers on Sunday
Dec. 7, 2006
GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado men's basketball team and the Greeley Recreation Department are teaming up to show a few "dinky dunkers" what college basketball is all about.
"We're trying to get young people in the Greeley community interested in Northern Colorado basketball," said head coach Tad Boyle, "and I'm happy our friends at the Greeley Recreation Department are helping us accomplish this. It always puts a smile on my face to see kids with such bright futures take an interest in basketball."
Over 850 tickets to the men's basketball game against Denver on Sunday at 2 p.m. will be handed out to the Greeley Recreation Department's youth basketball league, better known as the Dinky Dunkers, on Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Family Fun Plex.
Sunday's game will be known as the Greeley Recreation Department Dinky Dunkers Day, and youngsters from the league will be able to participate in a giant musical chairs contest at halftime, as well as get autographs from the Bears basketball team after the game.
"We think our partnership is a natural and invaluable partnership with the University of Northern Colorado athletic department," said Greeley Department of Leisure Services Director Ken D'Amato. "With our award-winning youth sports program, we try to encourage positive, healthy choices through learning fundamentals and valuing team play above competition."
