Bears Drop Yet Another Close One

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP)-David Schroeder scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Austin Kilpatrick added a career-high 16 points off the bench to lead Idaho State past Northern Colorado 70-60 Saturday night.
Sean Taibi paced Northern Colorado with 15 points and 7 rebounds.
Both teams struggled from the field in a low-scoring first half.
A 3-pointer by Matt Kline gave Northern Colorado (3-15, 1-5 Big Sky) a 10-6 lead at the 13:00 mark.
Idaho State (9-8, 4-0 Big Sky) grabbed the largest lead by either team in the first half, at 26-20, on two free throws by Akbar Abdul-Ahad with 5:13 left.
UNC answered with a 7-0 run to briefly regain the lead at 27-26, but a 3-pointer by Schroeder gave Idaho State a 29-27 halftime lead.
A 3-pointer by Jefferson Mason gave Northern Colorado a 30-29 lead early in the second half, but Idaho State responded with a 7-0 run to open up a 36-30 lead.
Northern Colorado chipped away, coming as close as 39-38. But another 7-0 run by ISU, capped by a Kilpatrick 3-pointer, extended the lead to eight, and Northern Colorado was unable to get closer than five the rest of the way.
Idaho State hit eight of 10 free throws in the game's final two minutes to seal the victory.
