Men's Basketball Releases 2014-15 Schedule

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado men's basketball head coach BJ Hill announced the complete 2014-15 schedule today, revealing a 30-game slate highlighted with non-conference games against NCAA Tournament Participants, New Mexico State and Colorado, along with 15 home games at Butler-Hancock Pavilion.

"We are excited about what this schedule brings to our program," Hill said.  "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to play a majority of our games at home in front of our fans. Our players are very happy about that."

The Bears officially open the year against Black Hills State University (Div. II) on Nov. 14 at 7:00 p.m.  The team then takes off for a two-game road skid against Wyoming (Nov. 16) and New Mexico State (Nov. 19).

UNC and New Mexico State have met six times over the years and the series is currently split, 3-3. This will be the second-straight year the teams will meet in the regular season, with the Aggies winning a 67-63 decision in 2013.

The squad returns to Butler-Hancock for three-game home stand against Colorado Christian (Nov. 24), Stetson University (Nov. 28), and Florida A&M (Nov. 30), before heading out to take on in-state rivals Colorado State and Colorado.

The Bears and the Rams take the court at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colorado, Dec. 7. CSU is UNC’s oldest matchup, first meeting in 1901. This is will be the 107th game between the two teams.

It’s then on to the Coors Event Center in Boulder, Colorado, Dec. 12 for a game against Colorado. The Buffaloes posted a 23-12 overall record last year, receiving an at-large bid to the Big Dance for the third season in a row.

“We think the schedule will do a great job of challenging and preparing our team for the Big Sky Conference regular season,” said Hill. “Our non-conference opponents are very strong programs that are well coached. It will be a great test for our experienced team.”

UNC opens its Big Sky Conference schedule on the road, against Montana (Jan 1.) and Montana State (Jan. 3), before returning home to square off against Portland State (Jan. 8) and Sacramento State (Jan. 10). In the new conference schedule, the Bears will play seven conference teams twice and four teams once.

The Bears will get a crack at last season’s Big Sky Champions, Weber State at home on Jan. 31. The Wildcats are coming off a strong 2013-14 season in which WSU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 15th time in school history.

The final three games of the conference schedule all come at home for the Bears.  UNC is set to play at Southern Utah (Feb. 26), Northern Arizona (Feb. 28), and finishing with North Dakota (Mar. 7).

The Big Sky Tournament will be held March 12-14 at the site of the regular season champion. This season the top eight teams in the league standings will advance to the tournament.
