Sunday's look back at football

  • The Northern Colorado football team raised over $4,000 for the Austin Ervin Foundation at the game on Saturday on Live Like Austin Day.

  • Senior quarterback Tim Tancik completed his first five passes in the game, ending his first career start 17-for-27 for 209 yards.

  • Junior wide receiver Dimitri Stimphil recorded 102 yards of total offense in the first half and ended the game with a team-best 137 (80 receiving, 57 kickoff return). It is the second time in four games this year he has topped the 100-yard mark.

  • Freshman safety Taylor Risner recorded a career-high in tackles with 11. It is the most tackles by a freshman at Northern Colorado since Courtney Hall had 12 at Idaho State on Sept. 17, 2011. The believed record for tackles in a game by a freshman is 21 by Reed Doughty at Nebraska Omaha on Oct. 5, 2002.

  • Freshman quarterback Sean Rubalcaba played in the first game of his career, rushing twice for 10 yards.

  • Continuing on the freshman train, wide receiver Stephen Miller's 37 punt return yards are the most in a game by a freshman in the school's Division I history, bettering the old mark of 34 by Dominic Gunn against Eastern Washington on Nov. 8, 2008. He also breaks the freshman single season mark of 51 by Gunn as he now has 59 in just five returns.

  • The 30 yard kickoff return by junior wide receiver Dimitri Stimphil is the longest of the season for the Bears. All four players with returns have at least a 20 yard return.

  • Stimphil became just the fifth player in UNC's Division I history to top 1,000 career receiving yards. Stimphil now has 1,017 yards on 67 receptions.

  • Northern Colorado had three players in double figures in tackles for the first time this season as senior LB Clarence Bumpas had 13, freshman safety Taylor Risner had 11 and junior linebacker Leilon Willingham recorded 10. It is the first time since Oct. 29, 2011 against North Dakota the Bears had three defenders with 10 or more stops.

  • The defense now has nine quarterback sacks this season through the first four games after one on Saturday. Last year's team had 16 in 11 games.
