Through the eyes of a senior: Emanuel Hamilton
Editor's Note: Each practice during fall camp, UNCBears.com will sit down with one of the seniors on the team and take a look at the Northern Colorado football team through their eyes. Sunday was photo day for the Bears and an off day from practice, but senior defensive back Emanuel Hamilton still took the time to answer the series of questions for the fans.
UNC: What do you see as three main reasons fans should come to your games this year?
Hamilton: Reason one is we're in it to win it all. Two: We're better this year than we ever were and three: We're more focused. We just have to stay focused and continue to improve each and every week.
UNC: If you could follow only one teammate on Twitter, who would it be and why?
Hamilton: I don't really know too many of my teammates to follow, but if someone did have a Twitter, I'd follow [QB] Seth [Lobato]. He's always motivated, he's always in it to win it and he never stops working.
UNC: Is there one thing you want to say to the naysayers of UNC football?
Hamilton: Keep your eyes open. We're not going to talk a lot, we're just going to come out and play and win games.
UNC: Who do you think is the up-and-comer at the defensive back position?
Hamilton: [Brandon] Cartagenas is a true freshman and he's been working really hard. In one play, he'll get yelled out but he'll come right back out and make a play. He's going to be pretty good if he keeps working at it.
UNC: What's the best stadium you've played at away from Nottingham?
Hamilton: Probably Montana State.
UNC: Of all your current coaches, who would you most like to face 1-on-1 from back in their playing days?
Hamilton: Coach Collins.
UNC: Why did you choose UNC?
Hamilton: The main reason I chose UNC is because of Coach Collins. He told me to come get my education, play football and just have fun. If football didn't work out he said I'd have a scholarship to finish school and that's something that motivated me and shows that he really cares, so that made me choose UNC.
UNC: If there was one world issue/social cause you could help increase awareness of/help end, what would it be?
Hamilton: Gang violence. I grew up around it and worked my way through it but it's hard. I know how I got through it and I'd like to influence the kids to get through it. It's not easy to get away from gang violence because you're a target wherever you go. You may not be involved but a certain color you're wearing can get you targeted as a gang member.
UNC: If you could play any of the other sports at UNC, which would it be?
UNC: You've achieved a lot so far in your life. Which accomplishment are you most proud of?
Hamilton: That I've kept going and finishing school. It's my senior year and I never expected to be here so I need to keep going and finish this last year out strong.
UNC: What song do you find stuck in your head these days?
Hamilton: The song that I find stuck in my head is by Boyz II Men "A Song For Mama" because it reminds me of my mama each and every single day.
UNC: If you could interview any star, who would it be and what would you want to find out?
Hamilton: Magic Johnson. The reason why is because he's faced so much adversity. I'm faced with a lot of adversity because of my height and because I keep getting injured and I've got to work through it and I've got to understand that I'm small so I just have to work harder than everyone else and don't let one game, one scrimmage or one play bring me down. You've just got to bounce back.
UNC: What's the best place in the world you've visited?
Hamilton: I like to travel but there's nowhere like home. That's where my family is and I've lost so much, so there's no place in the world I could be or that's more important than home.
UNC: If you could be on any reality TV show, which would you choose and why?
Hamilton: I'd be on Jersey Shore just for the fun.
UNC: Now we're going to ask you some fun questions about your teammates… Who is the best singer on the team?
Hamilton: I am.
UNC: Who does the best Coach Collins imitation?
Hamilton: [LB] Leilon Willingham.
UNC: Who's the comedian of the group?
Hamilton: There's not really one to say because this team is a fun team. Everyone is making jokes and we're out here having fun. You can't really point out one guy because one day someone is funny and the next day it's somebody else. It's a really good team to be around.
UNC: Who's the most likely to get on another teammate when they're not living up to their potential?
Hamilton: [LB Clarence] Bumpas.
UNC: Who watches the TV show that shocks you and what is it?
Hamilton: I don't know, I'd probably say one of the o-linemen.
