Through the eyes of a senior: Isiah Jones
Editor's Note: Each practice during fall camp, UNCBears.com will sit down with one of the seniors on the team and take a look at the Northern Colorado football team through their eyes. Switching back to the defensive side of the ball, defensive end Isiah Jones took time out of his busy schedule after the second practice on Monday to give his answers to the popular camp questions.
UNC: What do you see as three main reasons fans should come to your games this year?
Jones: First of all, if you have school spirit you should come out and show support for your school. Second, we've been working really hard and making great strides, both during spring ball and now fall camp. The third reason is we're going to put on a show.
UNC: Is there one thing you want to say to the naysayers of UNC football?
Jones: Just keep doubting us, you're adding more fuel to the fire.
UNC: Who do you think is the up-and-comer on the defensive line?
Jones: I'm going to say Kendrick Johnson. He's big, he's strong and fast and he has all the tools to be successful in this program. If he learns under Coach Carpenter, he's going to be a great player for this university.
UNC: What's the best stadium you've played at away from Nottingham?
Jones: Utah. That was my first game coming from junior college and it was my first big Division I game and the atmosphere was incredible.
UNC: Of all your current coaches, who would you most like to face 1-on-1 from back in their playing days?
Jones: Coach Smith, the offensive line coach. He talks a little trash from the o-line so I'd go against him.
UNC: Why did you choose UNC?
Jones: On my visit, it was a great atmosphere. The players here were very cool and showed me a great time on my visit and I felt comfortable here.
UNC: If there was one world issue/social cause you could help increase awareness of/help end, what would it be?
Jones: Poverty. I think poverty is the number one reason people commit crimes or do bad things, because they're forced to do things that they normally wouldn't do if they didn't have money.
UNC: If you could play any of the other sports at UNC, which would it be?
Jones: I would say basketball. I grew up playing basketball.
UNC: You've achieved a lot so far in your life. Which accomplishment are you most proud of?
Jones: Getting the scholarship to UNC. Back in high school I had an injury that could've ended my career, but I bounced back. My main goal was to get a scholarship and I accomplished that goal.
UNC: What song do you find stuck in your head these days?
Jones: "Ain't Worried Aboun Nothin" by French Montana.
UNC: If you could interview any star, who would it be and what would you want to find out?
Jones: Barack Obama, just to find out how he's made it to where he is today and to get his knowledge and wisdom.
UNC: What's the best place in the world you've visited?
Jones: Hawai'i. I've only been there one time and it was back in sixth grade but it was beautiful.
UNC: If you could be on any reality TV show, which would you choose and why?
Jones: Survivor. I grew up watching Survivor as a kid and I think it would be fun to go on the show.
UNC: Now we're going to ask you some fun questions about your teammates… Who is the best singer on the team?
Jones: I'm going to go with [DT] Lex Smith. He's a rapper.
UNC: Who does the best Coach Collins imitation?
Jones: I'm going to say Marcus Forward.
UNC: Who's the comedian of the group?
Jones: [RB] Robert Holland by far
UNC: Who's the most likely to get on another teammate when they're not living up to their potential?
Jones: [QB] Seth Lobato.
UNC: Who watches the TV show that shocks you and what is it?
Jones: I think [OL] Filipo [Mose] watches The Voice. That shocks me a little bit.
