Sports Corp luncheon cancelled

Today’s College Football Kickoff Luncheon in Colorado Springs has been cancelled, but the planned 350 meals for luncheon guests at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort will be donated to the firefighters and displaced individuals and families in Colorado Springs impacted by the ongoing wildfire.

The meals will be delivered to firefighters and evacuees in the city today on behalf of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, luncheon sponsors UMB Bank and the Denver Broncos, and the coaches from the schools that would have been part of today’s program – Troy Calhoun (AFA), John Wristen (CSU-Pueblo), Rip Scherer (CU), Earnest Collins, Jr. (Northern Colorado) and Jim McElwain (CSU).

Table purchasers will be given the opportunity to donate their fee to the efforts today as Colorado Springs deals with the disaster.

“We are cancelling today’s college football kickoff lunch for many obvious reasons, because we are most concerned for our city, our community, the Air Force Academy family, the new fire in Boulder, the lingering one near Fort Collins, and our friends and neighbors who have been hard hit by this tragic fire,” said Sports Corp President and CEO Tom Osborne.

“Our city is stretched, and nobody’s mind is on anything but the tragedy and the heartbreak. Our constant thoughts are also with the men and women on the ground and in the air, working to protect us and our homes and businesses. They are heroes.”

“We are grateful to our sponsors, The Denver Broncos and UMB Bank, the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, and the coaches and institutions that join us this morning in our outreach,” said Osborne.
