Bears Complete Day Four Of Practice
GREELEY, Colo. -- Northern Colorado football took the practice fields for the fourth time on Tuesday afternoon, getting its second workout in shells (shoulder pads and helmets) as the team prepares for the season opener at Kansas on Sept. 5. The team was on the field for two hours and 15 minutes, coming together offense vs defense in four of the 13 segments.
The Bears also worked on kick-off returns and PAT/field goals under the hot summer sun. With 24 true freshmen and three transfers on the roster, there was a lot of instruction coming from not only the coaching staff, but also the 16 seniors on the squad. After practice, the coaches spoke to the team about consistency and execution.
"I thought today had better tempo," said Head Coach Scott Downing, who is beginning his fourth season at the helm. "Every day we see improvements and that is what has to happen for us to be successful."
Wednesday will be the first time the team is in full pads, as they are scheduled for 2:30-4:45 pm. Thursday marks the team's first two-a-day practice as the Bears hit the fields from 8:00-10:15 am and then again from 7:00-8:45 pm.
The season opener against Kansas is set for 6:00 pm (Central) and can be seen live on Fox College Sports Central.
