GOALS AND PHILOSOPHIES
It is the goal of the University of Northern Colorado's Strength and Conditioning Program to develop peak performance levels in all of its athletes. This is achieved through strength and conditioning programs specifically designed to keep the athletes performing at their highest levels, as well as help with the prevention of injuries. The Bear Iron Program uses extensive Olympic style weightlifting, core strength training lifts and plyometric training to harness the power needed for competition. When training for power you are also developing strength, speed, agility, flexibility, anaerobic endurance, balance and postural awareness. These are variables essential to being an elite athlete at the University of Northern Colorado.

Strength & Conditioning Internship Program

Internships within the University of Northern Colorado's Strength & Conditioning Department serve both the potential intern as well as the student-athlete. Having more qualified "eyes on the floor" help with both the professional development of the strength coach and the maximum performance of the student-athlete.

Internships at UNC are currently on a volunteer basis with no benefits or compensation provided. The Internship program at UNC is designed to be highly interactive and beneficial. Successful candidates will be required to maintain 15-30 hours each week depending upon the internship's specifications. The student-intern will be expected to complete any and all responsibilities given to them by their supervisors.

Student-interns must be committed to the field of Strength & Conditioning and be eager to learn and participate in all areas. Each student-intern will be responsible for developing a positive rapport with the student-athletes while maintaining a professional distance. The student-intern will learn to establish themselves as a strength & conditioning professional to not only the student-athletes, but to all coaches and administrators as well.

The student-intern will report directly to the Director of Strength & Conditioning and will work under the supervision of, and take direction from, the Director, Assistants, and Graduate Assistants.
